The Cardinal’s Lunch is one of many new enterprises stemming from the 2017 Archdiocesan Synod, to particularly engage with future leaders. Primarily, this initiative aims to:
Find new leadership in the Catholic community;
Create new environments where business and community leaders can engage with the Church;
Provide opportunities for Catholics to be inspired and encouraged to live out their values in daily working life.
On the 28th of August, we continue the series with Wellington's own Cardinal John Dew, as he speaks about the future of the Church.
John Cardinal Dew, Archbishop of Wellington (New Zealand), Military Ordinary of New Zealand, was born in Waipawa, New Zealand on 5 May 1948. After studying philosophy at the Holy Name Seminary and theology at Holy Cross College, he was ordained a priest on 9 May 1976. He succeeded Cardinal Williams as Archbishop of Wellington on 21 March 2005, and on 15 February 2015, Pope Francis proclaimed him Cardinal. In this role, he has pushed us to follow Pope Francis’ example in being a church that serves those in needy.
Cardinal John is optimistic for the future, encouraging the faithful to be outward looking, through the message at the 2017 synod of "Go, you are sent".
Our lunch will feature Cardinal John Dew, sharing his vision for the future of the church being young, transformed and transformative.
Please join us on the 28th of August at the Intercontinental Hotel at 12:00 as we break bread and share our Catholic values.
